Karleigh brought her timeline last week. It was fun to learn about you and your family!
This week:

We learned about making inferences in reading. I read a mystery book aloud to them and we found clues to help us understand the story. They were detectives and used inferences to help them solve a case. Someone was messing up our room, we found clues and solved the case. It was Mrs. Deutsch. They couldn't wait to find out what happened each day.

In math, we learned about time to the hour and half hour. Some students are able to tell time to 5 minutes!

We wrote a mystery story during writing. It was fun to read about what they had lost and the clues they used to find it!

Next week:
The sight words: day down did get long

There was a note sent home on Thursday about bringing a specific type of toy animal to school next week. Please let me know if you have any questions.

We will be learning about habitats, animals, and how animals and plants depend on each other. We will read nonfiction and fiction books about animals and find the main idea and detail. In writing, we will focus on writing a story with a beginning, middle, and end. In math, we are reviewing and going deeper with tens and ones.

It will be the 100th day of school next week, we will do something small on that day. We will have a 120th day celebration because our math standard is writing and reading numbers to 120. It will be sometime in March.

I hope you had a chance to look at the report cards. If you have any questions, please let me know!!!

This week:

We had a blast learning while doing camping activities. We read stories about camping and connected them to our senses. We measured different items in math and also pretended to go fishing. They loved finding out if it was a keeper or not. In writing, we practiced making a list with camping words.

We did a living and nonliving activity with goldfish crackers and live goldfish.

They also drew a campsite which they had to measure how long their sleeping bag and tent would need to be.

They got to read to their buddies during camp out/ pajama day!

Next week:

We are going to be detectives and each day they will be presented with a new problem to solve. We will review math, comprehension, and phonics skills. In math, we will be learning about time to the hour and half hour. In writing, they will write their own problem to solve.

Tonight is the night the kids can perform at the basketball game during half time. The game starts at 7. Hope to see you there!

On Friday Jan. 22nd, we will have a camp out/ pajama party. They can wear pajamas that day to school. It is also and early out that day. If any of you have small pop up tents we could use that day, please let me know.

This week:

We learned about American symbols. We read nonfiction stories about them and reviewed table of contents, heading and index. They built the monuments with legos and then used a website to build with legos electronically. It took some problem solving to do that. In writing, we wrote reports about a symbol they chose. In math, we played guess my rule and added our legos that we used.

They had a blast during moonlight bowling!

Next week:

The words for next week :

been, eat, girl, my, than

Some of the students have been asking about Accelerated Reader or AR. Some of the students will be starting that soon and I will gradually get through to all of the students. It is a program that tests comprehension on a book they have read. We will use the guided reading books that I send home daily.
We will spend some time on Monday learning about Martin Luther King Jr.
We will be going camping next week (for pretend). We will read camping books and focusing on how our senses can help us remember a story. We will be learning about measurement in math and catching fake fish and measuring them with paper clips or linking cubes etc. We will write a story about going camping.
