It was such an amazing school year! It always goes too fast! Thank you for all of your help with their learning! Thank you for reading with them every night and do extra math things at home! It has helped them be successful in 1st grade!

I will have most of the students in my class next year and I am really looking forward to having this group of kids again! As I told them all year, they are the best students ever!

They had a lot of fun at the park! It was a beautiful day for it! They also got to be the teachers this week. They taught me magic tricks and some jokes and had me doing some pretty difficult math problems! We finished our memory books and played some math games!

They each got a deck of cards to practice some math over the summer!

Kali's dad brought Tara the dog to show the class!

Thank you again for a great year!!!

May 24th- Highland park in the afternoon

May 25th- Swing choir and band perform

Instead of guided reading books for the reading log, they can read you the weekly readers they have brought home or books they have at their house!

This week:

We wrote and found pictures for our 1st grade memory books. We learned some multiplication strategies and reviewed ways to add and subtract double digit numbers. We wrote a story in a speech bubble and played a review game on Kahoot. We had weekly reader centers, where we read different weekly readers and answered question with a group!

We also learned how to play spiral addition!

Next week:

We will add the finishing touches to our memory books and read books by our favorite authors. We will also do some problem solving activities.

This week:

They did a great job during testing. It is a long test, but they persevered through it! We are read stories by James Marshall. He wrote about characters like Miss Nelson and Viola Swamp. Some students brought those books home to read to you! In math, we are reviewing adding 10s to any number. They started to review some first grade skills by making their own board game. They will finish writing the instructions this week.

They loved tug of war!!

Please continue to read daily. During this week because of testing they did not bring a book home from guided reading, but they can always read a library book too!

Next week:

We will test 12 of the sight words this week.

We will continue to make our board games. Some of them are about phonics skills and some are about math skills.  We will be reading reader's theaters this week. In writing, we will be working on a memory book. We will start some basic multiplication skills in math.

We also reviewed maps and map keys and made a map of a farm. In math, we reviewed shapes by making big shapes out of small shapes and using shapes to add.

Next week:
We will be reviewing all sight words for the next few weeks!

We will be testing! We will also be making games as a group to review skills for testing. Some students will make phonics games and some will make math games.  In writing, we are focusing on having capital letters and periods in the correct spots in our stories.
